Cory must be imagining things. She says the “youth should be told about Edsa, and to ensure that the gains are not lost”. What gains are she talking about? During the Freedom Constitution (prior to 1987 Constitution) she could have simplified land reform but no she has to wait for the oligarchs to sit in Congress. She had to cling on to Hacienda Luisita (siyempre lupa yan sayang din…) and up to now the blood spilt in Mendiola with seventeen (17) farmers killed in cold blood is in her hands. On her hands too are the blood of farmers who have died in Hacienda Luisita.
By the way during those early days in Edsa- was Cory in Edsa herself? Can someone answer to me?
We go back to the gains- isn’t it a fact that during her term this country experienced the worst brownouts and blackouts (brownout daw pag araw, blackout pag gabi na) and who was selling generators? Ahem. And isn’t she the one who gave back to the Lopezes in a silver platter Meralco and Channel 2? (Must be the reason why Kris is stuck in Channel 2). I remember during her term somewhere in the summer a shipment of rice from
Mindoro
allegedly got lost at sea somewhere during summer.
Who could forget the rise of the price of galunggong- at least that fish was cheap during the time of Marcos- and who could forget lining up to buy rice- when was that, during the time of President Cory’s Presidency. Let’s keep the spirit of Edsa yes but its gains? What gains? The fact that nothing was done about the worsening traffic in Edsa during her time? And what of her speeches- “Nung nabubuhay pa si Ninoy xxx”—“Nung nabubuhay pa si Ninoy xxx”- (akala tuloy nung kapitbahay namin siya pumatay kay Ninoy eh).
She was also the first to use libel and I bet she taught Gloria its use after she sued Louie Beltran and Max Soliven when the former claimed “nagtago sa ilalim nang
kama
”, the figure of speech defense was not bought by the court. Must be one of the reasons why Louie Beltran died.
But a lot of people died during her term and I have to add my hero “Lean Alejandro”(this was the true Tibak or Aktibista- all the USC chairmen who followed are wimps)- and “Ka Olalia” whose eyes were gouged out- if we blame the killings of leftists on Gloria now- then we should blame this one on Cory. What is good for the goose is good for the duck.
It was during Cory’s term that a lot of these civilian outfits to kill leftists and Muslim separatists were born? The big issue then were the CAFGUs and Singlaub was here in fact recruiting civilians and former soldiers. The old Marcos animal CHDF or CHDU (civilian home defense force or unit) was replaced by Cory’s CAFGU (civil armed forces geographical units).
It was during the time of Cory that mass-murders and rape became common.
Marikina
then was known as “Ma-rape-kina” and I remember towards the end of her term during the First Gulf War a friend of hers Manglapus even said “if rape is inevitable (then) relax and enjoy it”. Gains from Edsa? Maybe she gained- her family still controls Hacienda Luisita, she has her daughter in a prime channel and a son in the Senate.
And now she says to do an Edsa? (Talaga lang ha?) Some say Cory didn’t steal anything but here’s a puzzle. I watched tv months ago- about the jewelry of Imelda- the jewels were surrendered to Joker Arroyo who promptly gave it to Cory. Where are these jewels now? Joker Arroyo was clear in his words “You don’t ask a receipt from the President” Now we asks where is it?
The Miracle of Edsa was parceled out to politicians who betrayed the Edsa revolution- and here she is calling another people power so that it can be betrayed again. We don’t need oligarchs doing the waltz empowering themselves after each and every struggle. What we need is not “people power”- but people empowerment.
